Dan Whalen, P.E.
Dan Whalen is a senior vice president and serves as Hanson’s power market principal. He oversees project planning, permitting, design and construction support services for Hanson’s power generation and transmission clients. He specializes in working with power industry clients, providing project planning, permitting, design and construction support services. His work has encompassed transmission and distribution projects, wind and solar energy projects, coal combustion residuals disposal and management facilities, water supply projects, low-level radioactive waste disposal facility projects throughout the U.S; liquefied natural gas tank projects around the world; and numerous projects for clients such as Ameren, AT&T Inc., BNSF Railway Co., NextEra and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Dan has been involved with high-profile power projects including the Ameren Illinois Rivers HVAC transmission line project, which encompasses more than 385 miles of new transmission lines from Palmyra, Missouri, to the Indiana border east of Marshall, Illinois, with three major river crossings; the Hutsonville Power Station and Pearl Power Plant ash pond closures; the CapX2020 HVAC Mississippi river crossing; the Spoon River and Mark Twain transmission line projects; and a number of solar and wind energy projects across the U.S. Dan also has been responsible for quality assurance and quality control programs for major site characterization projects.
In addition to serving on Hanson’s board of directors, Dan is a member of the University of Illinois Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association Board of Directors and volunteers as a board member at Prevent Child Abuse Illinois.
