Hanson’s John Harms to present at International Bridge Conference
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s John Harms, P.E., S.E., senior vice president and project manager, will serve as a presenter at the International Bridge Conference. Harms’ presentation, “Paducah and Louisville Railroad Bridge,” will be held during the rail session on June 8 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He will discuss the design and challenges of constructing a 3,100-foot-long railroad bridge across the Tennessee River. The Kentucky Lock project represented a substantial investment in one of the largest and busiest inland waterway navigation channels in the U.S. Hanson served as the prime engineering consultant for the railroad relocation project that required rail, vehicle and barge traffic to remain mostly uninterrupted throughout the majority of construction. This influenced several innovative engineering design solutions, including incorporating float-in construction and sustainable design elements.
