North Carolina Central University – building commissioning
North Carolina Central University, located in Durham, is a diverse university with approximately 9,000 students enrolled. North Carolina Central University offers more than 100 bachelor degrees in the areas of Business, Education, Law, Library and Information Sciences, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Science and Technology. Within these areas of study, the university offers approximately 40 graduate degrees. In recent years, North Carolina Central University has seen a significant increase in enrollment for its nursing program. To meet the needs of this growing program, the university is building a new School of Nursing facility.
Hanson is providing building commissioning services for this 70,000-square-foot facility with classrooms, laboratories, offices, nurse/patient simulator areas and infrastructure. This project is being designed to achieve U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Silver certification. Commissioning services will be performed on HVAC systems, domestic hot water, special piping, lighting controls and emergency power systems.
Hanson’s commissioning services will include development of the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and the Commissioning Plan (Cx Plan), construction observation (equipment installation and start-up), functional performance testing of HVAC systems, oversight review of operation and maintenance (O&M) training and documentation, and 10-month warranty review.
