Hanson’s John Coombe receives national community service award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s John Coombe, P.E., S.E., executive vice president, recently received the national 2008 Community Service Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). This award recognizes a principal or manager of an ACEC member firm who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life in his community.

Coombe has been active in Springfield, including serving on the board of directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the city’s Capital Improvement Advisory Committee, developing a major five-year capital improvement plan.

He has served as co-chairperson of last year’s United Way of Central Illinois campaign, which raised $3.2 million, and as the chairman of the American Lung Association’s Springfield Golf Classic, which raised more than $100,000 for pulmonary research. He has answered phones during the Children’s Miracle Network telethon, coached youth hockey, and served in numerous other community initiatives.

Coombe was honored for his community service achievements at the recent ACEC Fall Conference in Montreal.

ACEC is the Washington, D.C.-based engineering industry association representing the business and political interests for owners and principals of approximately 5,700 independent engineering companies throughout the United States.
