401(k) plan and matching contribution
Available to eligible employees, Hanson's 401(k) Plan allows employees to defer a portion of their income and contribute that percentage to the plan on a pre-tax basis, thus lowering taxable income by an amount equal to savings. The company also contributes to the plan on employees’ behalf in the form of profit sharing or matching contributions. The plan allows for flexibility in investment choices with a variety of funds. Eligible employees may participate after completing six months of service.
Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT)
Our Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT) plan, offered by our holding company, Hanson Group Inc., allows employees to save for retirement on a tax-deferred basis by making them stockholders. This plan enables employees who contribute to the profitability and growth of the company and the value of its stock to share in the growth and prosperity of the company. Employees’ benefits grow right along with Hanson’s assets. Eligible employees may participate in the ESOT plan after completing six months of service.
Stock purchase program
As an employee-owned company, Hanson gives employees the opportunity to buy stock and increase their ownership in the company. Generally, on an annual basis, eligible employees may purchase company stock, thereby investing in their own and in the company's future success.
Medical and dental insurance
Eligible employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in a self-insured medical insurance plan. Dental insurance is also available.
Audio/vision care coverage
Hanson offers audio and visual insurance to eligible employees. They also may choose to purchase optional, affordable coverage for their dependents. The audio plan provides coverage for audio examinations and hearing-aid services, supplies and repairs. Hanson's visual plan provides coverage for services such as eye examinations, lenses and frames, and contacts.
By setting aside a portion of their monthly salary on a pre-tax basis, eligible employees may use pre-tax dollars to pay for dependent health-care expenses that are not covered by any insurance plan. This plan allows employees to save money by paying out-of-pocket expenses with wages that have not been subject to income, Social Security and Medicare taxes.
One of the most important features of our flexible benefit plan for employees with young children is that it provides a means for eligible employees to use pre-tax dollars to reimburse themselves for dependant childcare expenses.
We realize that the need for life-insurance protection depends on individual circumstances and financial situations. That is why Hanson offers life-insurance coverage that is intended to add an extra dimension to personal insurance portfolios. Hanson provides this insurance to eligible employees at no cost. Additional term insurance is available for employees and their dependents to purchase at reasonable rates.
Short-term and long-term disability
Eligible employees have both short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost. Both plans replace a substantial portion of the employee's income.
Paid time-off benefits
Hanson employees accrue vacation and sick leave biweekly. The number of days employees receive is based on length of service. Also, bereavement leave and holidays are available as separate paid time-off programs.
Part-time employee benefits
Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for medical and dental insurance, flexible-benefit plans, life and disability insurance, bereavement leave and vacation, sick leave and holiday paid-time-off programs. However, employees may have to share in the costs of some of these benefits.
Professional development programs
Hanson offers employees various on-site and off-site training and professional development programs. Employees can view up-to-date continuing education and seminar opportunities on Hanson's Intranet site.
Educational assistance plan
Ongoing employee education, training and development play a crucial part in Hanson’s continuing success. By helping pay for tuition, fees, books, equipment and supplies for courses at accredited public colleges, universities and community colleges, Hanson helps employees become better-informed and more technically proficient. All full-time employees and part-time employees who work at least half time are eligible.
Employee recognition programs
To demonstrate employee appreciation, Hanson takes the initiative to recognize employees who are celebrating specific employment anniversaries. Those employees being recognized also receive a bonus.
At Hanson, we offer flexible work hours to help our employees meet their professional, personal and family needs.
Hanson provides long-term care insurance to eligible employees to help protect themselves and their families in the event they need services such as home-health care or long-term facility care. Employees may purchase additional long-term care insurance at reasonable rates.
Cancer/critical illness protection
Hanson offers employees the opportunity to purchase cancer/critical illness protection coverage using pre-tax dollars. This benefit is also portable, meaning employees can take the coverage with them should they cease their employment with Hanson.
Wellness benefit program
Realizing that fewer sick days and lower medical expenses are a benefit to all of our employee owners as well as to our health insurance program, Hanson encourages employees to pursue healthy lifestyles. We encourage employees to participate in an annual biometric screening program which can result in a reduction in their health insurance premiums. Hanson also provides healthy snacks on a weekly basis.
